TOUR OF EUROPE: When in Rome, do as the romans do.

Roma. La Dolce Vita. We arrived in Rome and checked into our hotel, then immediately went out for a quick tour.  Taking the metro was an experience in it's own. Now rome being as ancient as it is only has two metro lines, one running north to south and the other east to west, this meaning they are always packed with people.  Oh well that's Rome! We get off the metro and Viola! There are the Spanish Steps, from there we went to the Trevi Fountain, which was under construction.  Better believe that didn't stop me from throwing in a coin and making a wish! Then we went to have dinner right smack in front of the Pantheon! Ugh, so gorgeous!

Why did it have to be under construction?

The next day we went to the Colosseum where we had a great tour, and from there the Roman Forum! Being in both those places was beyond surreal.  It was like being in a movie, hence my reference below to the Lizzie McGuire movie.  Sing to me Paolo!

Hey now, hey now! This is what dreams are made of.

Roman Forum

Did some fun shopping on Gran Via, the main shopping street and found Giolitti the absolute best place to get gelato!  Some of us were able to attend a rooftop cooking class where we first shopped in a local market in Piazza de Campo for certain ingredients and then learned to make pastas from scratch from a roman chef! Such an awesome experience! Bon Appetit!

That evening consisted of exploring, more gelato and going to see the Colosseum lit up at night! after an hour or so walk to get there were had dinner at a cafe down the street before walking over to the MAGICAL colosseum.

On our last day we toured Vatican City, saw the sistine chapel, and walked through St.Peter's Basillica.  It was dream like staring up at Michelangelo's work of art and just examining the immense amount of detail! And I had no clue the basilica was so huge!

Afterwards, we went exploring yet again and accidentally an into the famous Jerry Ferrara and Kevin Connolly at the Pantheon!

Overall Rome was so historic and ancient, it's definitely a place to visit!

Tips:

  • Watch for pickpockets
  • Don't take a picture with the guy in the gladiator suit, he'll most likely rip you off.
  • Split taxi fairs with your friends
  • Get lost! It's fun.
  • Eat at Giolitti! and ask for whipped cream on top.
  • Get a pope-ner. It's a bottle opener with the pope on it.
  • Eat PASTA and PIZZA every chance you get.
  • Explore the different piazzas.
  • Go into the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Pantheon, and Vatican City. Totally worth it!
Hotel:
  • Pros:
  • Breakfast wasn't bad
  • We were on the first floor! Whoop Whoop!
  • Location wasn't Horrible
  • Cons:
  • Definitely not my favorite place to stay, but it was decent
